LWV Duluth 2015-2016 Year in Review
Notable Items:
Voter: Produced 8 issues of the Voter starting in September
Committees: League of Women Voters Duluth has 12 active committees that plan and implement a broad range of services and programs such as voter registration, voter forums, observing public boards and committees, and issue oriented programs.
Ongoing Groups: There are two groups that meet regularly throughout the year: The Cross Cultural, Social Equity Committee; and the Sisters Book Club.
Voter Registration Events: From tabling at community events to moderating forums the League maintain its reputation for excellence in voter registration.
Moderating: This spring the League was asked to moderate a forum for ISD 709 on the issue of the sale of Central High School. Almost 400 people gathered in the Auditorium at Lincoln Middle School. For 3 hours the audience listened respectfully to the Superintendent's presentation and to the expression of very diverse opinions by everyone in the audience that wanted to speak. This event, in addition to other non-election related forms, tells us that the League is known and respected for our quality moderation. We are so proud.
New Members: The membership committee continues to astound - Duluth remains the highest membership enrollment in the State of Minnesota.
A complete listing of groups and committees can be found in the most recent Voter Newsletter, which can be accessed at the web site www.lwvduluth.org.
