LWV Duluth Indigenous Land Acknowledgement Statement
The League of Women Voters of Duluth works with people and communities who occupy the ancestral and current homelands of Indigenous peoples. We acknowledge their stewardship and care of the land on which we now live. We recognize the terrible impact of colonialism on Native people and the injustices perpetrated by the U.S. and Minnesota governments, including annihilation, forced assimilation, broken treaties, destruction of culture, separation of families, and dehumanization. We hold ourselves accountable to redress these harms by defending the right of self-governance of sovereign tribes and upholding the rights of Indigenous citizens within our democracy.
Approved, 12 November 2024, Board of Directors, LWV Duluth
