Advocacy/Action Committee

Program Committee  ????
??????   Purpose: To provide regular educational events to the general membership regarding League of Women Voters national, state, or local positions. When a local issue requires a new position, the Program for Action process will be initiated and led by this committee. A close working relationship with the Advocacy team is necessary.
Responsible to Board of Directors
​Responsibilities.

​
  1. Conduct an annual survey of members for areas of interest to study/ learn more about
  2. Act as Point of Contact with committees/teams regarding annual calendar planning of educational events
  3. Conduct Program for Action planning, when needed, as outlined in bylaws and LWV of Duluth handbook
  4. Representative(s) attend/view state Advocacy and Program Action Team (APAT) meetings online
  5. Organize and conduct civic educational events
  6. Coordinate with Advocacy Chair to organize and conduct advocacy events when appropriate

Purpose: To coordinate advocacy efforts, helping the League use effective advocacy efforts to support positions from national, state, and local positions to defend democracy.
Responsible to: Board of Directors
Responsibilities:
​
  1. Contact members who express interest in advocacy (work with Membership chair)
  2. Work within League positions and nonpartisan policy.
  3. Train interested members (Advocacy team), committees, Board of Directors, and general​ membership in best practices for advocacy.  ???
  4. Coordinate appropriate advocacy/action events determined by the committee, other LWV Duluth committees, and advocacy/action events promoted by LWVMN (See LWVMN "Take Action" webpage) and LWVUS (See LWVUS "Take Action" webpage).
  5. Inform League membership about opportunities to advocate and take action (e.g. website, E-News, "Voter" newsletter).
  6. Work with community groups for shared advocacy events/practices.
  7. Representative(s) attend/view LWVMN "Fired Up Fridays" meetings online​.
  8. Representative(s) will work within the LWVUS initiative to defend democracy: Unite and Rise 8.5
