LWV Duluth International Committee presents
Global Refugee Situation: Local Response
Countries around the world are seeing a dramatic increase in the impact of migration of refugee resettlement. In this discussion and two-part film series, we seek to begin a broader conversation, raise local awareness and find answers to the question:
hat can be done at a local level?

Panel Discussion and Screening of Film From Partners in Germany: local experts with experience working with an international refugee resettlement program will help audience members learn about what refugee resettlement looks like on a day to day basis. The panel will bring together several voices relevant to the experience of migrants and refugees, including a student perspective, professional perspective from work with refugees in Minnesota, a perspective of a refugee from our partners’ program in Schwerin, Germany, and a professor Social Work from the College of St. Scholastica. Together we will review these perspective, watch a segment of a documentary from our partners working with refugees in Germany, and discuss what we can learn and what we can do here at home.
On Sunday, April 22nd, we will screen Human Flow by the artist and director Ai Weiwei. This film gives audience members an opportunity to reflect on the diversity of migrant and refugee movements across the globe. After the film, we invite audience members to join us for a discussion[…]
This two-part series is co-sponsored with the UMD German Studies Program, UWS Social Work and Alworth Center for Peace and Justice, College of St. Scholastica.
