Youth Civic Engagement Fellows Update
November 2025
Youth Civic Engagement Fellows have been busy!
In addition to visiting a record number of classrooms and helping register about 60 students, Anja and Olivia, East High School Youth Civic Engagement Fellows conducted a poster contest highlighting the importance of voting. The winner was Judy Q. Here she is receiving her cash prize, along with her poster (below left), which is being distributed by student groups there, both at the school and around the community.
At Denfeld, Trey created this video, "Registering on Election Day," and Alaira made this poster (below right) for distribution at the school. They also had a table at the Denfeld Open House and are visiting classes.

The Youth Civic Engagement Fellows invited Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon to Duluth East High School on Friday, January 26th. More than 180 students listened to him speak about pre-registration for 16 and 17-year-olds, the importance of making your voice heard through voting, and the opportunity of being an election judge. He also spoke with East Student Government leaders to brainstorm ways to promote youth voter turnout. Denfeld students had planned to attend, but had a last-minute scheduling conflict. Students also learned about LWV Resources and events.
